Recommended piano book of the week – The Joy of Boogie and Blues

Our Piano Book of the Week is “The Joy of Boogie and Blues“. I was reminded of this when somebody asked me for a book recommendation for a teenage pianist that would like to explore jazz music. The book kicks off with the stomping “Boogie No. 1” which is an easy pre-Grade 1 piece that introduces the 16-bar blues pattern. The book increases in difficulty to about Grade 4 by the end of it. There is a lovely mixture of mellow blues tunes ranging to foot-stomping boogie-woogie pieces, so there’s something for everyone. I learned from this book about 20 years ago and it’s still one of my favourites! £9.99 from musicroom.com.
