Kingsdale Foundation School offers Music Scholarships for new entrants to the school who show outstanding musical potential. These scholarships provide for professional tuition in one or more instruments. The value of each full scholarship is equivalent to £1,000 of tuition. Other scholarships are available at varying rates.
Kingsdale’s new school of music is located in a new purpose built state of the art facility. Opened in 2008 by the internationally well known saxophonist Courtney Pine, this new facility is home to four classrooms, a rehearsal room and recording space , practice rooms and a steel pan and african drum room. In addition to this it has a purpose built recording studio and a full Apple Mac network of computers that allows recording to take place in almost every space of the block.
This is a Music Department full of energy and enthusiasm, aiming to see students reach their full potential whilst enjoying their music in a fantastic first class environment.
Kingsdale do not specify a minimum level of Graded playing but bear in mind that scholarship programs at secondary level for private schools usually require a level of playing around Grade 5. The scholarship program receives so many applicants that the required standard of playing is extremely high and students not playing around this level are more likely to be offered a Gifted & Talented scholarship than a full music scholarship.
Assessment Procedure for Music Scholarship
Assessments are held in the Autumn term during Year 6 .
Assessment activities are organised by the Director of Performing Arts with
appropriate staff. Entry date to return the Supplementary Form is 15 october 2012.
Audition: 30 Minutes
1 . Two performances on their chosen instrument(s) and/or vocal pieces.

I ask all scholarship applicants (for Kingsdale and other local secondary schools) to fill in a questionnaire about their music playing history and future goals. I send this form out to all Year 5 scholarship applicants and ask that parents help their child fill in this form before the end of the Summer term of Year 5.
