Hot on the heels of the Bromley Festival, here comes the next competitive music festival. The classes look like there are around 20 competitors in each one. Leave plenty of time to get to the festival and bring snacks if you are playing in more than one class! Please note that performing from photocopies will not be permitted.
Aim to perform your piece(s) from memory. We will have plenty of practice for this in advance of the competition. Playing from memory and taking a bow before and after the performance will make you stand out in such a large group class and give you the edge over a competitor that plays as well but doesn’t have as polished a performance. Dress smartly and keep long hair tied off your face. Croydon is a serious piano competition and you will see lots of children in their Sunday best (even if it is on a Saturday, expect to see boys in suits with dickie bows!)
I will also hold a ‘mock festival’ performance to try out performing infront of an audience from memory, to help with nerves and to practice bowing. It is vital to bow before and after you perform. Lots of people forgot to do this at Beckenham Festival, but those who remembered got a very approving look from the judge and no doubt it boosted their overall mark. The mock festival performance is on Saturday 7th of May.

So far, there have only been 2 takers for a mock festival on the 30th of April. As I will need to hire a venue for this, we would need about 8 – 10 students to chip in with costs. We are already into the month of April so it is now looking unlikely that a mock performance will take place unless a few more people respond by the end of term (8th April).
Hi, we are around on either Sat or Sunday for a mock festival that weekend if still possible. Kind regards,
Emily
