Here is some information about the exam centre for the exams on Monday 28th of May. The times emailed to you earlier today are provisional and are subject to confirmation from the exam board.
ACCOMPANYING STUDENTS TO THE EXAM
Due to limited space in the waiting area, we ask that only one parent or guardian accompanies the student to the exam. Under no circumstances will non-exam candidates under 18s be permitted into the waiting area. Teachers do not attend the exam sessions.
Most students have already taken a mock exam at the venue which gives you a chance to familiarise yourself with the piano plus have a lesson with an examiner. If you wish to arrange your mock exam, get in touch with me.
Pay & Display parking spaces are available on Cromer Street and around. The charging hours are: Mon to Fri 7.30am to 6.30pm, Sat 7.30am to 1.30pm. The nearest NCP parking facility is on Judd Street which is within the Congestion Charge area.
ARRIVING AT THE CENTRE
Aim to arrive ten minutes early. The exam centre can be found next door to the St Pancras Renaisance London Hotel. There is a ramp leading up to the entrance and the front door will be open so you do not need to use the intercom. Do not buzz the door but instead come straight up to the 2nd floor. Come out of the lift and turn right. A steward will let you into the apartment.
THE EXAM ROOM
Leave your bags, coat, hat, gloves, drinks, snacks, mum/dad etc in the waiting room. Only take in your books for your pieces. You do not need to take in your scale, aural and sight-reading books. The use of photocopies is not permitted at all so please ensure that you have the original book for your pieces.
TIPS FOR THE DAY
Say “hello” to the examiner when you enter the room and “thank you & goodbye” when you leave. Eye contact is very important to establish a rapport with the examiner.
If your hair flops down infront of your face, it obstructs the examiner’s view of you. It is a good idea to clip your hair back or tie it up.
Smart dress is not required but neatly presented is always a good idea. School uniform is fine.
Don’t forget your piano books. (Somebody always does, don’t let it be you!)
EXAM PROGRAMME SLIPS
You can save a bit of time on the day by filling this slip in advance. Please list your pieces in A, B, C order. Check with me if you are not sure what that is.
Piano exam results take 2 – 4 weeks approximately to arrive by email. I will send you the results as soon as I receive them so please do not chase 🙂
