LTCL Harpsichord with my diploma buddy, Frances Wilson. No turning back now!

So we’ve sent off our forms and a very large cheque for our LTCL Diplomas, to be sat some time in April 2013. I’ve just had my first lesson on the repertoire that I have been half-heartedly chipping away at over the past 15 months. I’m now back to weekly lessons with my teacher so I’ll have to pull out my finger and get practising. The arrival of the new harpsichord has provided a lot of motivation for getting up to speed with the repertoire.

So far, the Bach and Rameau is sounding quite good, although the ornamentation in the Rameau is proving really rather beastly so I may have to spend some time with the table of ornamentation so that I can write out all the twiddles!

I have a deadline to perform the Sweelinck twice at two upcoming festivals –  I think this piece sounds absolutely beautiful on the piano, dare I say nicer than it does on the harpsichord!

My programme notes are written and ready to run by my teacher at my next lesson.

I’ll be posting up some videos soon of my progress on the repertoire. Right, I’m off to tune the harpsichord then get practising!

Here’s a link to my chosen pieces:

If anyone is interested in buying my spinet, this is available for sale from Peter Barnes Harpsichords. See below for information:

New Today – (30.1.2013.) John Storrs Spinet. Compass c-f3. Cherry wood case, lid, music desk and stand. Very portable and nicely voiced in delrin plectra. Can be tuned to a=440 or a=415. 100cm long on the keyboard side, 120cm along the spine and 62cm at the widest point from the spine to the front of the keyboard at the treble end. The total length is 126cm.

I have just had this instrument returned because it’s owner, a professional pianist, took her grade 8 harpsichord and has bought my Flemish Zuckermann so she can continue to a diploma! When she bought it she took it, packed in bubble wrap, on the train to London. Available now for only £995!
